People at Shaping Our Future community meeting

Since September, Tulsa Public Schools has been working with our team, community, and families to Shape the Future of our district to make teaching and learning in Tulsa more equitable and more accessible. A big part of that has been our budget redesign process to identify strategic investments and resource reallocations to help our educators, team members, students, and schools thrive within our continued fiscal constraints.

During Phase 1 of this process, we held 24 community feedback meetings and asked our community to participate in 3 activities. During these activities, participants discussed their hopes and concerns, were asked to identify what they value most, and created a $20 savings plan. Nearly 1,500 people attended these meetings. We also had 5,700 people fill out our online budget redesign survey. We are so thankful to everyone who participated in Phase 1. Read More Here

You can read the report from these meetings here.

During Phase 2 of this process, 90 representatives from our core constituencies participated in three sets of workshops. These meetings included principals, Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association delegates, Board of Education, representatives from the American Federation of Teachers, the Budget Advisory Committee, Community Advisory Council, Superintendent’s Student Cabinet and Teacher Cabinet, and the Tulsa Council of PTAs. These meetings looked at the feedback that was gathered at the first community meetings and worked with the information.

So what’s next?

Phase 3 is ongoing, which includes the meetings with the Budget Advisory Committee. They are looking at all the information and will provide input and feedback on potential strategic investments and resource reallocations. Then, starting December 9, 2019, we will hold four community meetings throughout the district. These meetings are:

  • Monday, December 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the McLain High School cafeteria
  • Tuesday, December 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Memorial High School cafeteria
  • Wednesday, December 11, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the East Central School cafeteria
  • Thursday, December 12, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Webster High School Allen cafeteria

We are so thankful to every community member who has helped us during this process and we look forward to continuing to work with our team, families, and community as we continue.
